Brief History:
The area was first settled in 1666. By the 1700s, this new settlement was named Northington Parish of Farmington. Nearly 100 years later, Northington Parish became known as Avon (named after the Avon River in England) when the General Assembly granted its independence from the town of Farmington in May of 1830.
